The mother of an Alabama teen who disappeared in Aruba in 2005 is launching a resource center named for her daughter to help the families of missing persons. Beth Holloway is scheduled to open the Natalee Holloway Resource Center on Tuesday at the National Museum of Crime & Punishment in Washington. Holloway hopes the center will prevent many more missing person cases. But if tragedy strikes, Holloway says she wants to support families and reduce the challenges that she faced. The center’s opening comes after police in Peru arrested Dutchman Joran Van der Sloot, long a suspect in Holloway’s case. Police officials said Wednesday that Dutch man Joran van der Sloot, once suspected in the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in 2005, is now again the suspect for the murder of 21-year-old Stephanie Flores Ramirez in a hotel room in Lima, Peru. Chile police are on a manhunt for van der Sloot, searching border and customs checkpoints, various hotels and other overnight accommodations in the region of Peru. Reports say that he had fled to Chile over land on Monday, moments after the crime had occurred, and he will be extradited to Peru if captured. But there were no sightings of the suspect as of Wednesday, and authorities were investigating if van der Sloot went deeper into Chile. Stephanie Flores Ramirez’ body was found in a hotel room registered under the name of Joran van der Sloot early Wednesday morning. Ramirez had been brutally knifed and wrapped in a blanket in a pool of blood and police believed that the murder happened four days ago. Ricardo Flores, the father of the victim, said that van der Sloot was with his daughter in a video taken from a Lima casino early Sunday. The police found his daughter’s car about 50 blocks from the hotel and discovered pills like those used in date rape cases. Authorities are planning to issue an international arrest warrant in the next 48 hours and Interpol has alerted its office in Chile and other bordering countries of the case and placed them on alert in case van der Sloot tries to leave that country. Joran van der Sloot, along with brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, was arrested in Aruba in 2005 and was arrested again in 2007 in connection with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

The alarm to authorities regarding a USC bomb threat began from a psychiatric ward at the County-USC hospital according to police.
