Infantino Sling Rider Recall – The Health Canada and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Infantino LLC, announced a free replacement program for the Infantino SlingRider and Wendy Bellissimo infant slings after reports of the deaths of three babies. The consumers in the Canada and United States are being advised to stop using Infantino Sling Rider immediately for infants younger than four months old due to the risk of suffocation. U.S. CPSC is aware of three reports of deaths that occurred in 2009. Those deaths were a 7-week-old infant in Philadelphia, 6-day-old infant in Salem and a 3-month-old infant in Cincinnati, Ohio. CPSC issued a warning about Infantino sling carriers for babies on March 12, 2010. The Infantino Sling Rider fabric can press against an infant’s nose and mouth, blocking the baby’s breathing and rapidly suffocating a baby within a minute or two, where a sling keeps the baby in a curled position bending the chin toward the chest, the airways can be restricted, limiting the oxygen supply, and the baby will not be able to cry for help and can slowly suffocate.
